Dr. Karen Davis, Principal
I absolutely love people and I love the Hillcrest Community! Leadership has been an exciting journey for me, which is why you will always see me smiling. My experience includes 10 years teaching mathematics at Brookwood High School and 5 years as an Assistant Principal at Davis-Emerson Middle School, both in Tuscaloosa County. I hold a Mathematics degree from Stillman College, a Master's in Instructional Leadership from the University of Phoenix and an Ed.S. in Instructional Leadership from the University of West Alabama and Doctorate of Rural Education from the University of West Alabama. This is my 7th year as Principal at Hillcrest Middle and my 22nd year in education.
I am happily married to John Davis and we have two children, Zoie and Zaya. We are active in our community and enjoy spending time with our other kids - the students at HMS! Be sure to wave and speak when you see us out and about!
I firmly believe in building positive relationships and teaching strong academics! The two work hand-in-hand. We want our students to be full of knowledge and to be good people. Character education is crucial in the foundation of learning for every student. This year, we are embracing a new motto as a part of the the Whole Child Initiative through the University of Alabama. I'm so excited to take on this new part of the journey!

Mr. Kyle Oden, Assistant Principal
I am thrilled to be entering my fourth year at HMS! I have 16 years of experience in Tuscaloosa County. I hold a bachelors degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, also from the University of Alabama. All 16 of my years have been in the Hillcrest area, so I know what great students and community we have.
I have an absolutely amazing wife, Brittney, who teaches at Englewood Elementary. We have two boys, Reid and Jackson. Reid is 8 years old and will be starting third grade and Jackson is 3 years old. We are big Alabama fans and especially enjoy keeping up with Alabama football. We also enjoy spending time with family and friends and traveling.
I truly believe that we have the best faculty there is and look forward to great things this year.
